Dr. Katona is currently an Instructor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he serves as the director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Genetics Program. Dr. Katona is a physician-scientist with clinical and research interests in the fields of gastrointestinal cancer and cancer genetics. His NIH K08-funded basic science research program is focused on epigenetic regulatory mechanisms in colon cancer and neuroendocrine tumors, and the ways in which these mechanisms can be modulated to aid in the development of novel therapeutic strategies for these cancers. His clinical interests are in hereditary gastrointestinal cancer and polyposis syndromes.
